Participants in the U.S. Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) are required to maintain a full course of study every semester. However, the ASU ISSC may permit students a Reduced Course Load (RCL) only in two circumstances:
Students in their final semester of study
If students are completing their degrees and require less than the 12 or 9 credits they may be permitted to have an RCL. Here's how to determine graduate student completion dates.
Students with a medical issue
For students who are approaching their final semester and require fewer than the required credit amounts, students will need to submit a request for approval for reduced course load to the ISSC. Beginning in November 2017, students should submit the Academic Reduced Courseload eForm. This eForm will route from the student to the Academic Advisor or Faculty Advisor to confirm that the student has fewer credits remaining meets full-time requirements. The Academic Advisor or Faculty Advisor will receive an email notification once the student has submitted the eForm. The Academic Advisor should click the link in the email and complete their portion of the eForm. The ISSC will begin processing the request once the Academic Advisor or Faculty Advisor has completed their portion.
For students who are working with the department on a medical withdrawal, please refer your students to an International Student Advisor as soon as possible for further advisement on immigration implications and how it may affect a student’s immigration status.
