International Academic Support Center

Arizona State University is committed to the success of our international students by providing a variety of student success resources.

I-ASC is a center designed to help engage and assist ASU’s international students. We host fun and interactive weekly workshops and offer free tutoring for English-related questions. Brought to you through a collaboration between International Students and Scholars Center (ISSC) and Global Launch, I-ASC gives students a chance to make new friends, practice their English skills, and learn in a new way.

Focus:               Communication Skills

Title:                  Effective Communication

Audience:         All international students (domestic students welcome)

Schedule:         Workshops for the Spring 2018 Semester have ended. Check back soon for the Fall 2018 Schedule.

Description:      In this free workshop offered every week, international students will practice skills for everyday and academic English such as public speaking and interview skills. This workshop is open to all students. From week-to-week, students will:

        • listen to and discuss academic content with peers and professors
        • learn to effectively organize ideas and present them clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences in multiple contexts
        • review elements of grammar, idiomatic language, humor, and pronunciation
        • practice practical skills when communicating in doctors’ offices, restaurants, and over the phone
        • gain confidence conducting interviews and while being interviewed

Audience:         All international students (domestic students welcome)

Schedule:         Select Fridays 2:00 – 2:45 p.m.

Description:     In this free workshop offered on select Fridays, international students will learn important skills to be successful in the U.S. classroom. This workshop is open to all students. From week-to-week, students will:

          • learn US academic cultural expectations and the differences in cultural norms which may impact student success
          • understand the various support roles and services that ASU provides to all students
          • Gain confidence in managing time and preparing for academic examinations
          • Create a professional online brand to communicate personal experiences

Title:                     Language Consultation    

Audience:            Visiting Scholars

Schedule:            February 1st from 12 – 4 p.m.

       March 1st from 12 – 4 p.m.

       April 5th from 12 – 4 p.m.

Location:             Student Services Building, Suite 170

Description:        Visiting scholars can participate in a private session, in which they will work with a language consultant in 30-minute blocks to focus on specific language strategies and fluency support, including pronunciation, enunciation, and grammar.
