Greetings from the International Students and Scholars Center! Can you believe it's already June? Summer is moving faster than we want, but we hope you're having fun and staying healthy and safe.

This is the next installment in our summer email series, covering a variety of topics as we count down to the start of the fall semester. We want you to know all about things to do in Arizona, the services offered by the ISSC, and what you can expect this fall.

This week, it's all about us-the International Students and Scholars Center. We keep saying we're here for you, and while you might be familiar with our compliance-related services, there is so much more to how we support students.

Did you know that the ISSC offers:

Coffee and Conversation
Every Thursday

This summer, we will continue to host our "Coffee and Conversations" event once per month. You can look forward to this tradition continuing as Grad Coffee and Conversations this fall, but we will be moving to Thursdays.

Enjoy free coffee (and tea!) in a space to relax, escape the heat, and have a good conversation.

All ASU students are welcome to our conversational hour, where ISSC staff and student workers will be available to chat and answer any questions.

This is an open space to meet people, learn more about living in the U.S. as a student at ASU, and gain helpful information on topics like community service, professional development, dating in the U.S., and places to go during school breaks.

Global Professional Preparation Academy
Coming in the Fall

Are you in graduate school and looking to build your resume and professional portfolio? This program can help you sharpen your interviewing skills and improve your resume, cover letter, professional portfolio, and more. The sessions are held throughout the semester.

Afternoon Board Games
Every second Wednesday of the month

Roll your dice and become the board game King or Queen for the night! ISSC and the library will host a tabletop game night on the second Wednesday of every month in Hayden Library, open to both international and domestic students.

This event is a great opportunity to get to know other students, as well as librarians and library resources. If you have a board game you would like to request for one of our game nights, please let us know in advance, and we will do our best to include it!

ISSC at the SDFC
Coming in the Fall

Be sure to check out our events happening at the Tempe Sun Devil Fitness Center. We will have pool parties and badminton tournaments. If you are not enrolled in classes and do not have access to the SDFC this summer, you can still attend our events. So come beat the heat with us at the SDFC. Check out our event page to learn more about the dates and times.

Learn Arizona
Coming in the Fall

Looking to learn more about how to make the most of life while living in Arizona? This series helps students navigate the desert southwest.

Topics cover everything from local resources like shopping, biking, hiking, and transportation to places to visit and more!

Inclusive Leadership Certificate Program
Coming in the Fall

Through the Inclusive Leadership Certificate (ILC) program, graduate students can record their attendance at existing offerings across campuses and online, then write reflections to demonstrate their professional development and personal impact. Within this program, students can work towards gaining badges that can be showcased on LinkedIn. Once three or more badges are completed, an ILC participant will earn a certification.

This is an excellent professional development tool that helps you display your skill-building outside of the classroom.

Global Connect
Coming in the Fall

Global Connect is part of the ISSC Connect Series, providing an opportunity for everyone to come together as global citizens, share knowledge, explore opportunities, learn about global cultures, connect with one another, and build lifelong friendships. Our goal is to enhance the student experience through global connections.

First Year Student Connect
Coming in the Fall

The First Year Student Connect is a program designed for first-year undergraduate students to connect with each other and learn tips on adjusting to new life and navigating resources at ASU. Through this program, you will be able to CONNECT with other students and the ISSC staff, LEARN tips on adjusting to a new culture and resources on and off campus, as well as discover opportunities such as getting involved on campus, volunteering, and searching for on-campus jobs. You can also INFORM the ISSC team if there is anything else that we could do to enhance your first-year student experience. Most importantly, you are not alone during your first year at ASU! Second-semester/year students are highly recommended to participate in this event to help new students adjust to ASU campus life.

ISSC's Café
Coming in the Fall

The ISSC's Café will be launched in fall 2024. It will be a dedicated weekly event providing a space for everyone to hang out with old and new friends, relax between classes, and try international snacks and beverages provided by the ISSC. ISSC staff will be available if you have any questions or need support and want to meet in a more relaxed environment. Special programming and activities will be planned for certain weeks during the semester. Be sure to check it out in the fall!
