On July 17, 2026, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security published a final rule eliminating Duration of Status for certain nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors. Important Enrollment Reminder for F-1 and J-1 Students
As session A ends and session B begins, we want to remind you about the full time enrollment rules for maintaining your immigration status.
- Session A ends: March 3, 2025
- Session B begins: March 16, 2025
- Last day to add a session B class without college approval: March 17, 2026
If you drop a class after March 17 and it puts you below full-time enrollment, this could affect your ability to stay enrolled full-time. Falling below full-time enrollment may jeopardize your immigration status. If you’re unsure about your enrollment, contact the ISSC before dropping a class.
Important Notes:
- Getting an ‘E’ grade does not directly affect your immigration status.
- Full-time enrollment must include in-person credits:
- Undergraduate students: At least 9 in-person credits
- Graduate students: At least 6 in-person credits
Hybrid courses count as in-person and can be used toward your in-person credit requirement.
