Greetings from the International Students and Scholars Center. As you look forward to finishing the spring semester and finals week, we want to send you some reminders about registering for summer and fall 2020 classes.  If you are still in the U.S. and your F-1 or J-1 visa has expired, the ISSC recommends that you do not travel back home this summer. Currently, U.S. embassies and consulates are closed, and we are unsure when they will open for you to apply for a new visa. If you do decide to travel, please make sure you have a valid travel signature on your I-20 or DS-2019.   Fall 2020 registrationAs you prepare for the fall 2020 semester, the ISSC would like to remind you that F-1 and J-1 international students must be enrolled full time by the start of the fall semester, Aug. 20, 2020. At this time, ASU plans to return to in-person classes for the fall 2020 semester. Should this information change, we will update you immediately. As such, you should prepare your class schedule so you are meeting full time enrollment requirements.   How many credit hours must I enroll in as an international student to be full time?To maintain SEVIS compliance, F-1 and J-1 international students must enroll in a full course of study. A full course of study, or full-time status, is determined by: The number of credits you are enrolled in for the semester. The number of in-person and online credits you are enrolled in.The combination of sessions (A, B and C) you are enrolled in.Whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student. StatusMinimum credit hours requiredMinimum in-person credit hoursUndergraduatestudent12 credit hours9 credit hoursGraduate student9 credit hours6 credit hoursGraduate student with an assistantship6 credit hours3 credit hoursWhile you may register for credits in various sessions, you are required to enroll in at least one credit hour of on-campus courses for credit throughout the entire semester (session C or a combination of sessions A and B). Hybrid courses have a combination of in-person and online components and may not be permitted by some government-sponsored programs. If you are a government-sponsored student, make sure before registering that you are permitted to take online or hybrid classes. Are you graduating this upcoming fall 2020 semester? If fall 2020 will be your final semester, or if you are completing thesis or dissertation hours only and will be a part-time student, you must submit a request to the ISSC for approval of your part-time enrollment no later than Aug. 20, 2020.Please contact the ISSC with questions at 480-727-4776 or ISSC@asu.edu.
