Yellow background with text reading Tax Filing Deadline is approaching

The International Students and Scholars Center would like to remind you of the upcoming tax filing deadline. The deadline to file your tax return is Monday, April 18, 2022.

All international students and scholars have a filing obligation with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. You must complete and submit tax forms to the IRS if you lived in the U.S. for any part of 2021, regardless of whether you earned income or not.

Arizona State University has arranged for individuals to use Sprintax Tax Preparation, which is a preparation software for tax filing for nonresidents.

You are not required to use Sprintax for your federal or state returns. However, other tax preparation software (such as TurboTax or TaxAct) do not allow individuals to file nonresident tax forms, meaning many international students are not able to use those programs. Only F and J visa holders, identified as residents for tax purposes, should use software like TurboTax or TaxAct.
