Requesting a Reduced Course Load

Participants in the US Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) are required to maintain a full course of study every semester. ASU ISSC may permit students a Reduced Course Load (RCL) only in three circumstances:

  • Students in their final semester of study: If you are completing your degree and have less than the required 12 (undergraduate study) or 9 (graduate study) credits remaining to earn your degree, you may be permitted to take a reduced course load.

  • Students who have completed ALL coursework, ALL research hours and ALL dissertation hours who are required to take 1 continuing registration credit
  • Students with a medical issue

 Reduced Course Load

If you are approaching your final semester and have fewer credits remaining than required for maintaining full time status, please submit the Reduced Course Load eForm:

Medical Reduced Course Load

If you would like to request an RCL based upon medical reasons please consult with an International Student Advisor as soon as possible. We will require medical documentation to approve the RCL. In either case, you must receive the RCL approval before the beginning of your final semester or before dropping below a full course of study.
