Tracking your on-campus hours each week
Students are not permitted to work more than 20 hours per week during the Fall or Spring semester, and the work week must be calculated from Monday to Sunday—not according to employer-specific schedules (e.g., Aramark's Thursday–Wednesday cycle).
Example:
Work Schedule with ASU (Monday–Sunday):
- Monday: 4 hours
- Wednesday: 4 hours
- Friday: 6 hours
Work Schedule with Aramark (Thursday-Wednesday):
- Thursday: 5 hours
- Sunday: 5 hours
- Tuesday: 4 hours
Combining these two schedules indicates a total of 24 hours worked from Monday - Sunday. This would exceed the 20 hours per week that is allowable under immigration regulations. Regardless of how your schedules are created, you must calculate hours worked from Monday to Sunday each week.
Additionally, you cannot average hours across pay periods; for example, working 18 hours one week and 22 the next is not allowed. Each week (Monday - Sunday) must stay within the 20-hour limit.
Violating these policies will result in the termination of your immigration status. For more information, please review our webpage.
