Register for spring classes
Registration for spring 2026 classes will begin for students in the coming weeks. Please ensure your schedule meets immigration requirements. Please be sure to check My ASU for your specific registration date.
Spring 2026 enrollment requirements
F-1 and J-1 international students must enroll full time by the start of the spring semester on Jan. 12, 2026. Please prepare your class schedule so you meet full-time enrollment requirements, which include in-person credit requirements.
- Hybrid courses are considered in-person courses and count toward the minimum in-person credit hours requirement.
- Hybrid courses may not be permitted by some government-sponsored programs. If you are a government-sponsored student, make sure that you are permitted to take online or hybrid classes before registering.
- All ASU Sync classes are considered online courses and do not count toward the minimum in-person credit hours requirement.
If you need assistance with scheduling classes, please contact your academic advisor.
How many credit hours must I enroll in as an international student to be full time?
To maintain SEVIS compliance, F-1 and J-1 international students must enroll in a full course of study and be inside the U.S. Students outside the U.S. cannot maintain SEVIS compliance. Please refer to the table below for a summary of full-time enrollment requirements.
| Student status | Minimum credit hours required | Minimum in-person credit hours required |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate student | 12 | 9 |
| Graduate student | 9 | 6 |
Although you may register for credits in various sessions, you must enroll in “in-person” courses for credit throughout the entire semester — courses in session C or a combination of courses in sessions A and B.
For example, a student who has only in-person credit hours for session A and is only enrolled in online courses for session B would not meet the in-person requirements.
What if I am graduating this semester?
If spring 2026 is your final semester, or if you are completing only thesis or dissertation hours and will be a part-time student, you must submit a request for an approved Reduced Course Load (RCL) no later than Jan. 12, 2026. Please submit your Reduced Course Load Request eForm before the first day of classes.
The RCL eForm must be submitted by the first day of classes, but please note that neither your academic advisor nor the ISSC is required to approve your eForm request by the first day of classes. Please do not contact your academic advisor or the ISSC to expedite approval of this eForm request. You will not be penalized if your eForm is not approved by the first day of classes, as long as it was submitted by Jan. 12.
