fallRegistration

Greetings from the International Students and Scholars Center. As you look forward to finishing the spring semester and finals week, we would like to provide you with some important reminders regarding registration for fall 2024 classes.

Fall 2024 registration
As you prepare for the fall 2024 semester, please keep in mind that F-1 and J-1 international students are required to be enrolled full-time by the start of the fall semester on August 22, 2024. It is expected that all students return to campus by the first day of classes. You should prepare your schedule so that you meet these enrollment requirements, including meeting in-person credit requirements. As a reminder, all ASU Sync classes and iCourses are considered online courses and do not count toward the in-person enrollment requirements . If you need assistance with scheduling classes, please contact your academic advisor.

Enrollment requirements
To maintain SEVIS compliance, F-1 and J-1 international students must enroll in a full course of study and be physically present in the U.S. Students outside the U.S. cannot maintain SEVIS compliance. Please refer to the table below for a summary of full-time enrollment requirements:

Academic level
Minimum credit hours required
Minimum in-person credit hours
Undergraduate student

Graduate student

Graduate student with an assistantship (TA, RA or GSA)

Please review the following information about in-person credit requirements:

  • While you may register for credits in various sessions, you must enroll in on-campus courses for credit throughout the entire semester. This entails either registering for a session C course or a combination of sessions A and B courses.
    • ASU Sync classes are considered online classes and will not count toward the in-person enrollment requirement.
    • Hybrid courses are considered in-person courses that count toward the minimum in-person credit hours requirement.
  • Hybrid courses combine in-person and online components and may not be permitted by some government-sponsored programs . If you are a government-sponsored student, make sure before registering that you are permitted to take online or hybrid classes.

Are you graduating this upcoming fall 2024 semester?
If fall 2024 will be your final semester or if you are completing only thesis or dissertation hours and will be a part-time student, you must submit a reduced course load (RCL) request to the ISSC for approval of your part-time enrollment . The deadline for submission is no later than August 22, 2024.

Please note that the RCL eForm must be submitted prior to the first day of classes. However, neither your academic advisor nor the ISSC are required to approve your eForm by the first day of class. Kindly refrain from contacting your academic advisor or the ISSC to expedite the approval of this eForm request.
