International Graduate Resource Hub

The international graduate resources hub, located on Canvas, has been designed by international students to help incoming and current International students discover and understand many of the ASU and AZ community resources provided. As international students, we want to make sure you find what you need when you need it and make it fun. Therefore, we will release modules with new information on an ongoing basis to make it easy to understand and find what you need when you need it. So make sure to check your emails for updates from us on Canvas. Please use the discussion board to talk with each other, ask questions, and communicate with your Global Peer Mentors, who are there to answer questions, get to know you, and help you make ASU your new home.

As a first-year graduate international student, you will automatically be enrolled in this course. Please look for it on your Canvas dashboard and the My Priority Task list on MyASU starting August 1st. If you are a first-year graduate international student, please contact the ISSC if you aren’t on the Canvas course.

Learn Arizona

The Learn Arizona Workshop Series allows international students and scholars to learn about the U.S. and Arizona way of life. We will cover topics such as how to find housing, exciting places to explore in Arizona, or what to eat when you want to eat like a local. Each event will let you experience different parts of living in Arizona, from hiking and biking to thrift store shopping. Don’t worry if you cannot attend the event in person; our team can send you detailed information on the topic to help you access the fantastic adventures Arizona holds for you. All of our Learn Arizona events will have modules in your International Graduate Resource Hub with more detailed information for you to explore.

Global Peer Mentor Program

The Global Peer Mentor Program connects graduate international students with an experienced current ASU student as your Global Peer Mentor. Your mentor can meet with you regularly and answer any questions you have throughout your first semester at ASU to help guide you every step of the way. They will also show you everything the campus offers by taking you to student events and connecting you to various resources to help you transition into the ASU campuses. Through this program, you will also have the opportunity to meet other international students through group activities and events designed to help you get connected.

Your mentor will be assigned to you and will reach out during the first few weeks of August. So make sure to check your emails for “Global Peer Mentor.”

Global Professional Preparation Academy (GPPA)

The ISSC’s Global Professional Preparation Academy (GPPA) is a workshop-based series for students to build their professional portfolios through workshops hosted by the ISSC, Career and Professional Development Services, the W.P. Carey School of Business, the Global Career Network, and more!

The GPPA is designed and structured to aid students in achieving academic and career success through training that will give them the “A-Z” on creating their professional profile. The GPPA will have a resume, cover letter, interview and networking workshops, community service opportunities, and more. The focus of this program will be to help students gain the skills needed for successfully applying to on-campus jobs, with additional support on building their long-term professional development.

Graduate Coffee & Conversations

Stop by our weekly Grad Coffee and Chat. Every Tuesday from 2 to 3 pm, we will be hosting a space set aside to talk about specific topics led by the Global Peer Mentors and an MCOE (Multicultural Communities of Excellence) Ambassador alongside an ISSC staff member. These events are open spaces to meet people, learn more about living in the U.S. as a student at ASU, and gain helpful information on various topics picked out by previous international students studying at ASU. Each week will have a set topic; however, students are always welcome to bring questions, concerns, or topics they want to engage with.

Example topics: Cultural Change and Culture shock; Mental Health; US dating Culture; Where to visit in Arizona and the US and best ways to get there.
