On-Campus Employment Guidelines for International Students

As an international student, you have the opportunity to work on campus. Here are a few important things to know:

  • On-campus employment is limited to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters and up to 40 hours per week during breaks and the summer semester.
    • Please refer to our hourly weekly limit chart to know the exact dates of when you are eligible to work more than 20 hours per week.
  • For a list of available on-campus positions, please visit the student employment job search.
    • As a reminder, working off campus (either paid or unpaid) without authorization will put your immigration status in jeopardy. To learn more about off-campus work authorization eligibility, please review our Off Campus Employment webpage.
  • All positions, including stipend-paid jobs, cannot average more than 25 hours per week per calendar year. This is an ASU policy, not an immigration regulation.
  • If you begin on-campus employment during the summer 2026 session, you must be enrolled full time for fall 2026 or an approved reduced course load is needed if fall 2026 is your last semester and you require less than full-time enrollment to complete your degree.
  • If you will be continuing at ASU with a new degree level, please contact us about your eligibility to work after completing your current degree program.

Graduating this semester?

If you will graduate this spring 2026 semester, you cannot continue to work on campus in a student worker position after your degree program completion date. This includes RA,TA, and GSA positions.

Undergraduate students cannot work after May 11, 2026. Most graduate students also cannot work after May 11, 2026 but can confirm with their academic advisor to determine their degree program completion date.

Please note:  RA/TA/GSA’s cannot work after the dates listed above even if the offer letter end date is later than the degree program completion date. Students may receive a paycheck after the degree program completion date but all employment must stop by the degree program completion date. Work performed after the degree program completion date would be unlawful and grounds for the termination of your F-1 immigration status.
