Scholar Event

Faculty, Scholar & Family Programming

The Faculty and Scholars Team is committed to enhancing the experience of international faculty, scholars, and their families at ASU. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment by offering opportunities for cultural exchange, community engagement, and meaningful connections. Throughout the year, we host a variety of events—social gatherings, cultural celebrations, and family-friendly activities—that encourage meaningful interaction among the international faculty, scholars and their families.

In addition to events, we provide guidance and support as you navigate life in the U.S., from understanding local resources to connecting you with campus services. Whether you are joining us for a semester or several years, our team is here to listen, learn from your stories, and help you make the most of your time at ASU. We look forward to engaging with you, learning about your experiences, and supporting you throughout your journey.

Scholar & Family Welcome Events

Held at the beginning of fall and spring semesters, this event is for new international scholars and their families. Meet the ISSC Faculty and Scholar team and build your network with other scholars and families while getting important information to help you thrive.

Past Welcome events have featured resource fairs, insightful guest speakers, and critical information regarding immigration, campus resources, and future programs. We invite our continuing scholars to share their experience with new scholars at upcoming welcome events. If you are interested in participating, please contact us at [email protected].

Scholar Event Series

The Scholar Event series offers unique cultural outings, networking opportunities, and social events each semester. We've enjoyed some great activities in the past, like a hike up ‘A’ Mountain, a tour of the ASU Art Museum, and a special "hidden gem" event, to name a few.

The International Scholar Research Showcase, an event in the fall, is designed to spotlight the innovative research and significant contributions of international scholars. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate research, spark meaningful discussions, and highlight the diverse expertise that enriches the ASU community.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and sharing meaningful moments together!

International Scholar Coffee & Explore Series

This casual, recurring gathering brings international scholars together to connect, relax, and build community. Each session features a unique theme along with an opportunity to explore—from guided campus walks to local tours—creating a fun and engaging way to connect with others and discover new aspects of life at ASU and the surrounding community.

International Spouse and Family Network

This program hosts events to foster community among international spouses and families at ASU. Through social events, cultural exchange, and shared experiences, we aim to build a supportive and inclusive community where spouses and families can connect, make friends, and feel at home in their ASU community. Join us for our popular seasonal gatherings—such as the Fall Thanksgiving Gathering and Winter Holiday Celebration— along with our International Spouse Coffee Hour, and the ISSC Chef’s Table event in the spring.

ISSC Chef’s Table: A Feast of Flavors

A beloved spring tradition, the ISSC Chef’s Table brings together international faculty, scholars, and their families for an event that celebrates food, culture, and community. This popular gathering invites attendees to explore a vibrant selection of global cuisines, featuring dishes prepared by our own ISSC chefs as well as favorite recipes shared by international scholars.

During this event, you can hear directly from our talented ISSC chefs about the stories behind their dishes and the cultural inspirations that shape their cooking. We invite you to explore the ISSC Family Cookbook, which highlights dishes and recipes from previous years and we hope to see you at our next event.
