Arizona State University’s International Students and Scholars Center is excited to welcome you to the Sun Devil family! Upon your arrival in the U.S., we must register you in SEVIS to confirm your student status with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

According to our records, ASU has issued you an I-20 or DS-2019 with a program start date of Jan. 8, 2024.
You must complete the SEVIS New Student Check-in upon your arrival because you are one of the following:
  • A first-time student.
  • A student returning from a semester or more away.
  • A student transferring from Global Launch.
  • A student transferring from another school.
  • A student transitioning from an online degree program to an in-person program.

After you arrive in the U.S., you can use your smartphone or computer to complete your SEVIS Check-in by Jan. 8, 2024. Review the following steps to complete check-in.

  1. Upload copies of your immigration documents by logging in to My ASU and clicking on Complete SEVIS Check-in under Priority Tasks.
  2. Update your local U.S. phone number, local U.S. address and SEVIS (home country) address in My ASU by clicking the Profile tab.
  3. Enroll full time. If you have difficulties finding classes, please contact your academic advising department listed in My ASU for assistance.
  4. Register for the International Arrival and Welcome event.

Failure to complete your SEVIS Check-in with the ISSC upon your arrival in the U.S. may result in the loss of your F-1 or J-1 status, and the termination of your SEVIS record. ASU does not recommend students arriving late. Entering the U.S. after your program start date is at your own risk.

J-1 students who were issued DS-2019s by an institution other than ASU, such as IIE-Fulbright, LASPAU and AMIDEAST, must report to the officer who signed their DS-2019 for SEVIS program validation.
