Fall 2026 Registration and Enrollment Reminders

As you finish the spring semester and prepare for finals week, we want to share some important reminders about registering for fall 2026 classes.

Fall 2026 registration

F-1 and J-1 international students must be enrolled full-time by the start of the fall semester on August 20, 2026. You are expected to return to campus and attend classes in person by the first day of the semester. Late arrivals are not permitted under any circumstances.

When planning your schedule, make sure you meet full-time enrollment and in-person credit requirements. Please remember:

  • ASU Sync classes and iCourses are considered online and do not count toward in-person credit requirements.
  • Taking a class for “audit” purposes does not count toward credit requirements at all.
  • If you need help with class scheduling, contact your academic advisor.

Enrollment requirements

To maintain SEVIS compliance, F-1 and J-1 students must:

  • Enroll full-time.
  • Be physically present in the U.S.
  • Students outside the U.S. cannot maintain SEVIS compliance.

Please refer to the table below for a summary of full-time enrollment requirements:

Academic levelMinimum credit hoursMinimum in-person credit hours

Graduate student96

Please review the following information about in-person credit requirements:

You must register for on-campus courses for credit across the entire semester. This means taking a session C course or a mix of session A and session B courses.

  • ASU Sync classes are considered online and do not count toward in-person requirements.
  • Hybrid courses (combining online and in-person components) count as in-person courses.

Are you graduating this upcoming fall 2026 semester?

If fall 2026 is your final semester or you will only take thesis or dissertation hours and enroll part-time, you must submit a Reduced Course Load (RCL) request to the ISSC.

  • Deadline: Submit your RCL request by August 20, 2026.
  • The RCL eForm must be submitted before the first day of classes, but it does not need to be approved by your academic advisor or the ISSC before classes start.
  • Please do not contact your academic advisor or the ISSC to expedite approval.
