On July 17, 2026, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security published a final rule eliminating Duration of Status for certain nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors. Financial guarantees
It is important that the ISSC and ASU Student Business Services have a copy of your sponsored student's valid financial guarantee on file at all times. The ISSC uses the information on the financial guarantee to:
- Verify the student’s approved major or level of study.
- Verify period of sponsorship.
- Issue a new I-20, if necessary.
- Find relevant contact information for the student’s sponsor advisor.
- Verify eligibility for certain immigration benefits.
- Help troubleshoot issues related to billing*.
