Arriving at ASU

Health insurance

Arizona State University requires that international students have adequate medical and accident insurance coverage. The following health insurance policies affect sponsored students:

  • Sponsored students with ASU-approved insurance provided by their sponsor who have a valid financial guarantee on file with Student Business Services will be automatically exempt from being enrolled in the Arizona Board of Regents Student Health Insurance Plan for the current semester. All other sponsored students will be automatically charged for ASU insurance.
  • To be eligible for the automatic exemption, you must ensure that Student Business Services has a copy of a valid financial guarantee on file. You must send your new or updated financial guarantee to Student Business Services and the ISSC. Please refer to these instructions on how to submit your financial guarantee.
  • ASU Health Services reserves the right to verify benefits and coverage periods with each sponsor.

Sponsors who provide ASU-approved insurance

For a complete list of sponsors who provide their students with ASU-approved insurance, please visit ASU Health Services Resources for International Students.

  • If your sponsor does not appear on this list, and you feel you should be exempt, please contact the ASU Health Insurance office at insurance@asu.edu as soon as possible, and no later than two weeks after school starts.
  • If your sponsor is on the approved list and you still see a charge for health insurance in MyASU under Finances, please notify Student Business Services (sponsorbilling@asu.edu) as soon as possible and no later than two weeks after school starts. Please note that health insurance charges will appear on students’ accounts initially until financial guarantees are verified each semester.
