Study abroad and research abroad

International students have the opportunity to study abroad or conduct research abroad to complete their dissertation if required and approved by their academic department.

Study Abroad through the ASU Global Education Office

Students should consult the ASU Global Education Office for details and application procedures for an ASU Global Education program.

If you choose to study abroad during the summer break and will return to ASU in the fall, please be sure to follow travel signature, visa renewal, and travel outside of the U.S. requirements. Additionally, you must enroll full-time for the fall semester and return to the U.S. before the start of the fall semester.

If you choose to study abroad during the fall or spring semester, complete our Reporting Exit from ASU eForm through the ISSC eForm Portal via the F-1 Student Services tab.

You will need provide us with a copy of an Academic Advisor Letter or Study Abroad Coordinator Letter stating the academic justification(s) for pursuing study abroad.

Please note that if you will be participating in study abroad for more than one semester, you will need to submit the Reporting Exit from ASU eForm before the start of every semester you plan on studying abroad.

Study Abroad not through ASU

If you choose to study abroad during the summer break and will return to ASU in the fall, please be sure to follow travel signature, visa renewal, and travel outside of the U.S. requirements. Additionally, you must enroll full-time for the fall semester and return to the U.S. before the start of the fall semester.

If you choose to study abroad during the fall or spring semester, please meet with an ASU ISSC advisor, prior to your departure, to discuss immigration implications.

Research Abroad

You will first need to speak with your academic advisor or department to confirm your eligibility for research abroad.

Once you have confirmed eligibility and enrolled in the required credits for that semester, complete our Reporting Exit from ASU eForm through the ISSC eForm Portal via the F-1 Student Services tab.

You will need to provide us with a copy of an Academic Advisor Letter stating the academic justification(s) for pursuing research abroad.

Please note that if you will be participating in research abroad for more than one semester, you will need to submit the Reporting Exit from ASU eForm before the start of every semester you plan on researching abroad.
