Welcome family and friends of international ASU students. This page is designed to help you understand the rules, regulations, processes and services offered to international students at ASU during their time in the U.S.

Information for parents and families
Student privacy information
As part of the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (also called FERPA or the Buckley Amendment), students' education records are protected and private unless the student chooses to give parents and guests access.
My ASU parent access
My ASU Parent Guest Access is an online tool that allows students to share FERPA-protected information with parents and guests. Information is not shared with parents without this access.
Parent access to medical records
After a student turns 18, parents usually no longer have rights to medical record access. Students will need to submit forms to allow parent access.
Visiting from abroad
Family and friends can apply for a visitor visa from the U.S. Consulate and visit from abroad for a variety of reasons, including graduation celebrations.
Tuition and billing information
Students and parents have a variety of options for easily paying their tuition and charges.
Financial assistance for international students
Although international students do not qualify for federal and state financial aid (unless they are eligible noncitizens), there are other options to help fund your students’ ASU education.
Emergency services
The university offers education and resources to ensure that all members of the university are safe and secure.
LiveSafe mobile app
ASU has its own free mobile app for students to use and feel safe.
Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services
ASU provides a central resource for students with disabilities to ensure their access to education and increase community awareness.
Prohibition against discrimination
ASU expressly prohibits discrimination and harassment, as well as retaliation by employees, students, contractors or agents of the university based on any protected status: race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information and Title IX sexual harassment.
ASU events
ASU cares about student engagement inside and outside of class. There are plenty of activities to do on campus.
Events for international students
In addition to university-wide events, international students can attend activities through the ISSC, specifically designed to help them eliminate language barriers, better understand American culture, understand immigration regulations, make friends and more.
FAQ
Yes. International students will need their I-20 along with other immigration documents to arrive in the U.S. The initial I-20 will be issued by ASU before their first arrival. After receiving the I-20, the student will review the initial I-20 for accuracy. The student needs to read and sign the Student Attestation. If they are under 18 years old, parents or guardians also need to sign the I-20. If your child will be attending on a J-1 visa and received a DS-2019, you will need to sign only if they are under the age of 14.
ASU University Housing helps ASU students find on- and off-campus housing. There are many options for students. University Housing is here to help all ASU students find their best fit.
Yes. You will be contacted by the Dean of Students if any emergency situation occurs. It is critical that your student has updated their emergency contact information in My ASU in order to facilitate ASU contacting you as soon as possible. The ISSC will be involved if translation is needed. ISSC also provides help in applying for visas for family members under emergency conditions.
The International Student Digital Handbook has a lot of information about how to prepare before coming to the U.S., accessing ASU resources, and finding things to do here in Arizona.
ASU respects the religious beliefs of all students. Students can apply to be absent from class or reschedule exams for religious holidays at the start of a semester. Only the student can notify faculty. Click here to view the religious holidays and observances calendar.
