On July 17, 2026, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security published a final rule eliminating Duration of Status for certain nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors. The rule was scheduled to take effect on September 15, 2026. Please visit our Duration of Status Rule Change webpage for additional information and updates.

Update: On September 14, 2026, a U.S. federal judge has issued an order blocking the new rules from going into effect at this time. As a result, the new rules will not take effect on September 15, 2026, and the current immigration rules remain in place while the court case continues.

Reporting requirements for Post-OPT and STEM OPT

Setting up your SEVP Portal account on Post-OPT

If you're currently on Post-OPT, the SEVP Portal is an essential tool for maintaining your F-1 status. It allows you to report required information directly to SEVP without needing to go through your Designated School Official (DSO).

What can you report through the SEVP Portal?

  • U.S. residential address
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Employer name and address

How and when will you gain access?

Within 72 hours of your EAD card start date, you’ll receive an email invitation from [email protected] at your ASU email address. This message will include a link and instructions for creating your SEVP Portal account.

Please note:

  • The SEVP Portal cannot be forwarded to a non-ASU email.
  • There is no cost to set up or use the portal.
  • If you do not see the email, check your My ASU Profile tab to ensure your ASU email is ac

tive and not set to forward.

Need help getting started?

Visit the SEVP Portal Student User Guide for detailed instructions on account creation and usage.

Maintaining accurate information in the SEVP Portal is a required part of your Post-OPT reporting responsibilities, so we encourage you to activate your account as soon as you receive the invitation email.

No need to call or email the ISSC—simply use the online system for faster processing.

In the MyISSC eForm portal, navigate to:

  • You can submit each report up to 30 days before your deadline.
  • We strongly recommend submitting early—ISSC cannot expedite requests, and late sub
